IKO is also involved in various remarkable and atypical projects.
On the banks of Lake Geneva, in the pretty winegrowing village of Corsier-sur-Vevey, the Manoir de Banis is one of the largest private estates in Switzerland.
The Manor owes its fame to the fact that Charlie Chaplin lived there for the last 25 years of his life. After the estate was bought in 2008 by Genii Capital, IKO oversaw the conversion work for the Chaplin’s World project.
The challenge was to build a new wing on the side of the manor with highly contemporary architecture – the Studios: a neoclassical building dating from 1840.
The project, representing a total investment of nearly CHF50 million, also included the renovation of the Manor and its outbuildings – an old farm and former garages that now house a restaurant, a souvenir shop and the site’s offices. Today, it features 4,500 m² of exhibition space and a magnificent 8-hectare park, and receives 300,000 visitors each year.
After operating for 18 months, Chaplin’s World was classified by TripAdvisor Internet users as their favourite museum in Switzerland. IKO is very proud to have contributed to the success of this unique project.
