Laying of the foundation stone for the Maison de la Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise with IKO Real Estate.

On 6 June 2024, IKO Real Estate marked an important milestone in the history of the Luxembourg Red Cross with the laying of the foundation stone for its new Maison, located at 15–25 rue des Scillas in Howald.

The Maison de la Croix-Rouge luxembourgeoise, born from a forward-looking vision shared with IKO Real Estate, was designed with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability. This ambitious project, open to the general public, will bring together the Red Cross’s essential services, such as blood donation, within an ecological and innovative building.

Architecture and Sustainable Design

The future Maison de la Croix-Rouge, developed in collaboration with the architecture firm Archi2000 et Associés, will be a model of efficiency and sustainability. The building is designed around a central atrium that promotes natural light, thereby reducing energy consumption.

The materials used, such as low-carbon concrete, have been selected for their low environmental impact and durability, with the aim of achieving BREEAM “Excellent” certification.

Geothermal energy, at the initiative of the Luxembourg Red Cross, will also be used for heating and cooling, thereby minimising the building’s carbon footprint.

The interior design will promote the well-being of occupants and beneficiaries, with open spaces and accessible terraces on the 4th floor, reflecting a modern and inclusive approach to the workplace and to services open to the public.

The layout of the spaces has been designed to optimise daily circulation flows, encourage natural interactions and promote physical activity.

Finally, the landscaping of the outdoor park will provide a space for meeting and relaxation, helping to strengthen employee well-being and supporting the targeted WELL Building Standard “Gold” certification for this building.

Accessibility

The arrival of the Maison de la Croix-Rouge in Howald City marks an important turning point in the development of this rapidly growing district, which benefits from excellent connectivity.

Thanks to Howald railway station, the multimodal transport hub and the upcoming arrival of the tramway on 7 July, access to the Maison de la Croix-Rouge will be greatly improved.

This new infrastructure will make it easier to access the many services offered by the organisation, further strengthening its role as an essential pillar for the local community.

Engagement et Collaboration

Commitment and Collaboration

Aligned with IKO Real Estate’s social and environmental values and standards, the building’s design has been carefully considered, combining functionality, accessibility and sustainability.

Scheduled for delivery at the end of 2026, the building will use eco-friendly materials and integrate renewable energy systems, ensuring a reduced carbon footprint. This will make it an example of responsible and innovative construction.

IKO Real Estate is proud to contribute to the realisation of this project and thanks the Red Cross for its trust, as well as all the partners involved in the project.

The foundation stone ceremony was honoured by the presence of Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and several government representatives, highlighting the importance of this new place dedicated to serving the general public.

During the event, Her Royal Highness Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, President of the Luxembourg Red Cross, Michel Wurth and Michel Simonis, respectively Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the Luxembourg Red Cross, Eric Lux, Managing Director of IKO Real Estate, as well as Ministers Martine Deprez, Gilles Roth and Max Hahn, all expressed their support and enthusiasm for this project, which promises to significantly improve support and solidarity services.
