Reduce & Offset

Carbon trajectory

It is structured around three key objectives:

  • Reduce by 50% the emissions associated with the materials used in our construction projects by 2040.
  • Aim for AAA-level energy performance in order to meet the requirements of the 2035 European CRREM pathway from now on. Our residential buildings, for their part, target an enhanced AAA+ performance level.
  • Deploying photovoltaic installations to strengthen the energy autonomy of our buildings.

Our carbon trajectory

A guiding objective for all our construction projects: to follow our carbon trajectory, aiming for an average reduction of –30% in emissions by 2030, –40% by 2035, and –50% by 2040.

Our target for reducing embodied carbon in property development

IKO aims to reduce embodied carbon by 50% by 2040, based on the Luxembourg construction benchmark defined by Energie Environnement in 2020. This involves an increasing use of timber structures (as seen in D’Haus and ekxo), as well as low-carbon and bio-based materials.

Our target for reducing operational carbon in property development

100% of our buildings will include on-site renewable energy production. As a result, all IKO developments will be positioned on the CRREM pathway as buildings that meet, at a minimum, the European performance requirements set for 2035.

Our carbon offset portfolio

At IKO, our commitment to a sustainable future is reflected in concrete actions.
To limit our carbon footprint, we have established an offsetting portfolio consisting of 9 projects already implemented or in the process of being launched.
This portfolio includes 4 afforestation projects and 5 reforestation projects.

Together, these initiatives are currently contributing to the avoidance or sequestration of 37,000 tonnes of CO₂.

Among these nine projects, the Bois de la Longine site holds a special place. Thanks to this initiative, we were able to offset all residual emissions from the first block of Rout Lëns, Lot 14, representing approximately 12,000 tonnes of CO₂.
