The open-air meeting place in Esch that brings together art, culture and sports activities 

Iko Real Estate lance sa première édition du Summer Rout Lëns, le rendez-vous incontournable de l’été à Esch-sur-Alzette.

À l’entrée de l’ancien site « Terres-Rouges », une terrasse éphémère sera aménagée du 16 juillet au 11 septembre 2022. Plus qu’une terrasse, c’est un réel lieu de vie et de loisir où art, culture, travail et sport se rencontrent.

A terrace that sets the tone 

This temporary terrace is intended to represent the future Rout Lëns district through several different themes.

The Esch meeting place

Designed for young people, families and entrepreneurs from Luxembourg and the surrounding border regions, Summer Rout Lëns offers, in a summery atmosphere, aperitifs, coworking cafés, DJ sets and sports games in an artistic environment on Friday and Saturday evenings. And, as the icing on the cake, on Sunday afternoons a food truck and themed workshops will be offered in addition to the other activities. 

As you will have understood, summer Sundays will be dedicated to entertainment and cultural workshops, but we will also be inviting citizens to take part in citizen consultation forums. 

Summer Rout Lëns is also an emblematic venue at the foot of two heritage buildings in the Esch landscape, which are an integral part of the future Rout Lëns district, just a few steps from the French border.

SUMMER ROUT LËNS WILL BE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PICTURE THE FUTURE DISTRICT AND ENJOY AN EXCLUSIVE EXPERIENCE ON A SITE UNDERGOING FULL URBAN TRANSITION. 

Art

Two containers have been transformed into works of art for the occasion by artist Organe Kauffmann. The choice of the lizard as the central motif is no coincidence: lizards used to live on the former abandoned industrial site. When IKO Real Estate launched the works, they were relocated to a green area. The Rout Lëns project plans to reintroduce them by creating specially adapted gabion walls. 

And as an additional nod to the theme, everything has been designed at Summer Rout Lëns so visitors can lounge in the sun. 

Innovation

Visitors will also be able to admire the future district on their smartphones thanks to an augmented reality table.

Sport

Several areas dedicated to games and sport have been set up to illustrate the community life of the future district: table football, a pétanque court, a basketball hoop, Mölkky games and arcade games. Everything needed to enjoy an evening with friends or a Sunday with the family. 

Greenery

The green character of the Rout Lëns district is represented by various tree species placed throughout the terrace. These species will be preserved and replanted in the future district. 

Community

Passers-by will be able to enjoy a range of workshops on summer Saturdays and Sundays: Makey Makey, citizen consultations and many more. These workshops put the district’s core values into practice: sustainability, innovation and resilience. 

Finally, a van transformed by an architect into a Drink Truck will serve draught beers, fresh lemonades and sharing platters, helping visitors keep their energy up to dance along to the DJ’s playlist. 

For a sunny Sunday lunch, let yourself be surprised by a themed food truck. 

Workspaces

The containers have two purposes. They will serve both as gathering places during workshops and as coworking café spaces, thanks to the Wi-Fi available on site. They will also host an arcade games area and a shaded relaxation space. 

The little extra

Customised “Summer Rout Lëns” beer bottles, created in partnership with Bofferding, will be available during special events.
