Legion 44: A Breath of Hope for the Climate

Preview screening of the film Legion 44 in Luxembourg on 6 May 2025

After being screened in Paris and New York, the film Legion 44 was presented in a preview screening in Luxembourg at an event organised by IKO Real Estate in collaboration with Mangrove Capital Partners, Converginvest Capital Partners S.A. et ATOZ Services, in the presence of H.R.H. the Hereditary Grand Duke

Directed by Leila Conners, an American filmmaker known for her environmental documentaries such as Ice on Fire and The 11th Hour, this new film offers an action-oriented perspective in response to the climate emergency.

Innovative, practical solutions to decarbonise

Legion 44 takes us on a journey to discover innovative projects around the world — from Kenya to Oman, from the United States to Switzerland, via Germany — led by companies committed to developing decarbonisation solutions. Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). In the face of the climate emergency, these initiatives provide concrete solutions by capturing carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas whose accumulation worsens global warming.

With an optimistic perspective, the film moves away from alarmist narratives to spotlight a generation seeking concrete responses to environmental challenges.

Among these solutions, some are directly inspired by nature. This is the case for certain types of rock that can naturally absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere. Thanks to technological advances, this natural phenomenon can now be accelerated, enabling long-term storage.

The film also highlights other innovative solutions, such as marine algae. Sargassum, for example, has the ability to naturally capture CO₂ as it grows. The approach involves cultivating it offshore to optimise carbon absorption, then harvesting it before it decomposes, in order to prevent the release of methane, a particularly powerful greenhouse gas. Once harvested, sargassum can then be used in various ways.

A powerful message that resonates with our commitments

At IKO, we are proud to have supported this hopeful project. In our sector, real estate, the environmental challenges are immense. It is no longer only about reducing and offsetting our carbon footprint. Beyond the offsetting actions already underway, we want to go further: to design and develop more responsibly, while actively exploring innovative carbon capture approaches such as those highlighted in this film.

Legion 44 reminds us that it is time to take action.
